Community Partners

The Child and Family Studies is pleased to collaborate with a diverse range of agencies at the local, state, and national levels to support meaningful practicum experiences to our students. These partnerships are essential in providing real-world learning opportunities that prepare students for professional roles in child and family service settings.

We actively seek new partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to supporting children, families, and communities. By serving as a practicum site, your agency plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of professionals, while benefitting from the energy and knowledge our students bring. We welcome the opportunity to explore how we can work together to create impactful learning experiences that strengthen both students and the communities we serve. The information below outlines some basics about our practicum expectations.

“We so enjoy having CFS Practicum Students at the Mayborn! The students always bring fresh perspectives to our programs and are excellent at working with our visitors. As a site supervisor, it is such a treat to work with students who are passionate about their work and well prepared to assist!”

Emily MacDonald, Museum Engagement Manager at the Mayborn Museum

Requirements for Site Supervisors

Site Supervisors are expected to...

  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Approve student learning goals for the practicum and assist the student in identifying placement-appropriate activities that support the student’s learning goals.
  • Provide direct observation of student performance while on-site.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support for the student while on-site.
  • Complete two formal evaluations at the mid-term and endpoint of the practicum.

About CFS Practicum Placements

  • Practicum students complete a minimum of 150 hours on-site. These hours may include any required onboarding and training needed.
  • The student's on-site schedule is determined in coordination between the student and site supervisor; generally, students need to be on-site a minimum of 10 hours per week to meet minimum hour expectations.
  • When creating the student’s on-site schedule, we ask that each schedule block be at least three hours long to allow for a meaningful experience.
  • Any significant alterations to the schedule or student learning goals/activities must be discussed with the CFS Practicum Coordinator.
  • There is no minimum requirement for direct practice hours as some of our placements can provide observation-based only experiences. We welcome opportunities for students to receive experiences in direct practice or active observation over the practicum semester.

For more information about CFS practicum policies and expectations, please refer to the Child and Famdily Studies Practicum Handbook.

Contact Information

  • If you are interested in becoming a Site Supervisor for Baylor's undergraduate Child and Family Studies program, please complete this brief form.

If you have additional questions about becoming a Site Supervisor, please contact the CFS Practicum Coordinator, Dr. Nicole McAninch.

The following section describes the forms used during the CFS practicum. Site supervisors partner with students in completing these forms as part of the practicum experience. For access to any of these forms or for questions, please contact the CFS Practicum Coordinator, Dr. Nicole McAninch.

CFS Practicum Forms

This form is completed in coordination between the practicum student and on-site supervisor to set the student’s weekly on-site schedule, identify the student’s practicum learning goals, and connect on-site activities that support the student’s learning goals. This form must be signed by both the student and site supervisor.

This evaluation form is to be completed by the site supervisor to assess the student’s professional performance and progress towards goals/activities at the mid-term and endpoint of the semester.

The site evaluation form is completed by the student at the end of the practicum experience to provide the CFS program and practicum site with feedback related to their on-site experience and opportunities to pursue learning goals.
