What is Marriage and Family Therapy?
Marriage and Family Therapy is one of the fastest-growing fields in mental health today. MFTs diagnose and treat the same range of conditions as other licensed clinicians, but take a distinctly systemic approach, understanding a person's challenges within the context of their relationships rather than as an individual. MFTs see individuals of all ages, couples, and families, and work to understand how the context of these relationships influences wellbeing.

In Baylor’s Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy program, students of all faith backgrounds are welcomed into a Christ-centered learning environment where spirituality, meaning and values are thoughtfully considered in relation to people, their relationships and communities. The program encourages personal; reflection and professional formation, preparing students to approach therapeutic practice with humility, compassion and respect for the whole person.
Program Details
Baylor University currently enrolls one cohort per year, beginning each September with plans to begin admitting students in the spring starting January 2028 as well. To apply, applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, completed prior to the program's start date, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Selected applicants will complete a virtual admissions interview and must pass a background check before beginning the program. No prerequisite coursework or GRE scores are required.
