Learning Outcomes & Goals

The Child and Family Studies program is guided by the core values and best practices of our field. After successful completion of the Child and Family Studies program, students will be able to:

Promote the well-being and development of children:

Students in our program understand holistic development of children in order to practice and advocate for improving quality of life for children. Students explore the contexts in which children grow and develop through a systems theory lens.

Build interpersonal and family relationships:

Students in our program understand the multi-faceted dynamics of family functioning through the lens of systems theory in order to practice and advocate for healthy relationship development.

Develop meaningful curricula and programs for children and families:

Students in our program demonstrate skills to support children and families through quality curriculum and programs that are crafted on the values of sustainability, efficacy, collaboration, and best practices.

Engage in observation, documentation, and assessment:

Students demonstrate objectivity and respect for human dignity through observing, documenting, and assessing children and families in order to plan for, identify, and celebrate growth.

Establish professional practices of lifelong learning, service, self-reflection, and critical thinking:

Students become professionals who practice critical thinking, self-reflection, and scientific inquiry. We desire that they know and use ethical guidelines and professional standards related to our field.
